Concern about Pigmentation

What Is Pigmentation?

Skin pigmentation is the lightening or darkening of the skin. This can be caused by exposure to the sun, genetic factors, and medical conditions. The most common type of skin pigmentation is called melanin. The more exposure to sun and UV radiation, the more melanin is produced. This can cause the skin to tan or darken in colour.

What Causes Pigmentation?

Pigmentation is the darkening of skin due to an increase in melanin production. Pigmentation can also be caused by certain medications, pregnancy, sun exposure, and aging. Pigmentation can be temporary or permanent, depending on the cause and can leave scars if left untreated or treated poorly. In most cases, pigmentation is not harmful and does not require treatment. However, if you are concerned about the surfacing of dark spots or pigmentation, talk to your doctor and ensure it is not harmful.
