Neck Lines & Laxity

Neck Line 1

What Are Neck Lines & Laxity?

The skin on our neck is delicate and has thinner skin than the rest of our face. This, combined with daily Sun exposure can increase the formation of fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging on the neck, a condition known as “neck lines.” In addition, as we age, the skin on our neck becomes less elastic and begins to sag, a condition known as “laxity.”

What Causes Neck Lines & Laxity?

Sun damage is one of the most common causes of neck lines and sagging. The skin on the neck is thin and delicate, making it highly susceptible to changes in temperature and UV exposure.

Weight gain or loss can also cause neck lines and laxity. When the skin stretches or contracts due to fluctuations in weight, it can lead to wrinkles and sagging.

Genetics also take part in the development of neck lines or neck sagging. If your family has loose, wrinkled skin on their necks, you may be more likely to develop the same condition. Finally, aging is a major factor in the development of neck lines and laxity.

As we get older, our skin loses collagen and elastin, two proteins that help keep the skin firm and bouncy. As a result, wrinkles and sagging become more common with age. While there is no single cause of neck lines and laxity, these are some of the most common contributing factors.

You may have heard the term Tech Neck more recently and it is a real cosmetic condition caused by staring down at our cell phones and tablets which causes our necks to wrinkle and the lines to deepen.
