Concerns about Wrinkles

What Is Volume Loss?

As we age, our skin produces less collagen, fat, and elastin, essential factors that help to keep the skin firm and elastic. The loss of these proteins causes the skin to become thinner and less able to repair itself, leading to the formation of wrinkles.

Wrinkles can also be caused by UV damage, diet, exercise, smoking, and harsh facial expressions. While some wrinkles are simply a natural part of aging, others can be prevented or reduced with a healthy lifestyle and good skin care routine.

Concerns about Skin Problems

What Causes Volume Loss?

The main cause of wrinkles is sun damage. UV rays can break down collagen and elastin fibres, responsible for keeping skin firm and elastic. As these fibres break down, the skin starts to sag and form wrinkles.

Another common cause of wrinkles is repetitive muscle movements, such as frowning or squinting. When we make the same facial expressions repeatedly, it causes the skin to crease and form lines. This is why wrinkles tend to form in areas where we use our muscles the most, such as around the eyes, mouth, and forehead.

Finally, smoking can also contribute to wrinkle formation by breaking down collagen fibres and reducing blood flow to the skin.
